Hi Lysette,
Re: What is whitefly....
Whitefly are a very small insect that goes through at least three stages of
life. It starts as a tiny "white fly" and then it attaches it's self to the
bottom of the leaves of certain plants like Fuchsias and Hibiscus etc .
Once it attached it's self to the bottom of the leaves it starts to suck
the "juice" out of the plant. It this stage it sheds it's legs and does not
move about. I think at this stage it is called "scale". It is difficult to
get rid of I am told and my local garden center advised me to "trash" the
plants as it is very unlikely that I will get rid of this insect. I don't
like giving up this easily and a couple of people on the net have suggested
"WhiteFly Traps" which I assume are sheets of sticky yellow paper you hang
around the plants and the "whitefly" are attracted to the bright yellow
colour and they get stuck.
I am not sure if all of the above is 100% correct and if I am wrong on the
facts, I hope someone with more experience will post more details on
Whitefly so that both you and I can learn.
