John Innes etc.


Thanks to all for the information on JI mixes and the lead and link to the JI
Institute. 

Of interest to some might be that the John Innes Institute is now part of the JI
Centre which has the JI Foundation of Rare Botanical Books. 

And in the nature of "It's a small world",the first director of the JI Institute
was none other than William Bateson, whose name every first year Biology student
memorizes
(or at least they used too....). J.B.S. Haldane who's history of science I read
many many years ago with great pleasure, was a Head of Genetical Research there.

John Innes himself was a philandthropic merchant who's money was used to
establish the 
JI Institute in its original location, Merton.
